The Ripple Effect: Noticing Rivers Past and Present
The Ripple Effect stems from our research project Ebb & Flow, which studies the many roles that rivers played in the lives of prehistoric communities from 2500–400 BC. This public engagement project creates small outdoor exhibitions featuring original artwork by Miranda Creswell (School of Archaeology Artist-in-Residence, University of Oxford) alongside ‘factsheets' about local archaeology.
Artwork
At nine of the ten sites, Miranda Creswell created an original work. The majority are painted on paper, with two sites featuring paintings on silk which will be installed outdoors. The tenth site is a larger exhibition of multiple paintings on silk installed on the grounds of Wolfson College. Our team of researchers has created site-specific factsheets about the local archaeology near each installation, many in collaboration with members of the community. Each factsheet will be installed at the site, and we have created downloadable / printable versions of them below.

All of the ten installations can be ‘visited' through our online map. The map has a pin for each site, which gives you more information about the location, as well as images of the artwork. Factsheets are now available below as all installations have been opened.
