Dr Antony Firth
Steering Committee Member
Fjordr
Antony is a Director of Fjordr, a small consultancy specialising in the historic environment of marine, coastal and inland waters. Antony’s career ranges across policy and practice, combining expertise in domestic, European and international law relating to heritage with direct involvement in desk-based investigations and fieldwork in and under the water. Prior to establishing Fjordr, Antony worked in commercial archaeology initially as a Project Manager and then as Head of Coastal and Marine, leading a very wide range of archaeological projects, including major development-led schemes, strategic research into methods and applications, and projects designed to broaden engagement with industry, schools and the general public. Recently, Fjordr has carried out a series of projects for Historic England on inland waters and watercourses, developing a new methodology for mapping the historic character of watercourses at catchment scales to inform river management. These projects show how the structuring of today’s landscape around watercourses reaches back into prehistory, identifying places and themes where further research is warranted. As well as authoring numerous reports, Antony has continued to publish extensively across a range of topics relating to the archaeology of marine, coastal and inland waters. Antony is a member of Historic England's Expert Advisory Group (EAG).
