Professor Rick Schulting
Principal Investigator
Rick has a long-standing interest in the prehistory of western Europe, focussing on understanding lifeways primarily through the analysis of human skeletal remains. He has been particularly interested in diets among coastal and riverine communities, using stable isotope approaches to look at what was eaten, as well as what was not eaten, and what this says about identity. More recently he has become involved with strontium isotope analysis to gain insights into the past use of landscapes. Another active research theme relates to skeletal evidence for interpersonal violence, and whether or not this increases with the appearance of more formal weaponry in the Bronze Age.
